September Mom of the Month - HEATHER TABER

Instructor, Lauren Murty: "It is such a pleasure to have Heather in class. Whether it's during Stroller Strides or Body Back, Heather's drive and determination not only motivate herself, but those other mamas around her! If you've ever been in a Stroller Strides class with Heather, then you know she's the mama leading the pack with all three kiddos in tow! Her dedication to strength, fitness, and motherhood are truly inspirational. We're so happy to have you as part of our family!"

This month we recognize HEATHER for her accomplishment and dedication to fitness, motherhood and life! Our Brea, Fullerton, Placentia and Yorba Linda Fit4Mom Team would like to say, "THANK YOU, HEATHER," for being part of our Stroller Strides family!

1. Who are the members of your family?

My incredible husband, Joe, is a wonderful father to our three kids: My spunky, smart redhead Dana (age 5), my super funny guy James (age 3) and my sweet baby Catherine (age 1).

2. What is or was your career?

I have a degree in Viticulture, and have been working in the wine industry for over 17 years (whoa, I sound old!). I work for a small, artisan winery in Napa Valley and have been there for 10 years. I started off as the Director of Sales, flying all over the country to work with wine distributors. But once the third baby arrived, my company was very gracious with my new work schedule. I am now the Director of Marketing and work 10-12 hours per week! I can still dabble and do what I love, while being mommy to the kids. It's a great work/life balance!

3. How long have you been a member of Stroller Strides of North Orange County and what has it done for you?

I started Stroller Strides when I was 6 months pregnant with my third baby. I had just moved back to California and took my kids to the park one day. I saw a big group of moms working out and I knew I needed to get involved! It's been a great year and a half of fitness challenges and accomplishments. I gained (and lost) 50lbs with each child and it became MUCH more difficult to shed the weight as each baby arrived. I credit my weight loss and strength to Stroller Strides, and most recently Body Back. I feel healthy again! And my clothes fit!

4. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

I have always been impatient and goal-oriented. Each child has taught me to "chill out" and enjoy this time as much as I can. Some days, when I'm really overwhelmed, I just stop. I stop the craziness, and just sit with my kids and play with them. I have learned to "make the other things wait"....and that is sometimes hard for me! I didn't realize how quickly "life with kids" goes by, and boom!....now I have a kindergartner.

5. Favorite website(s)?

Pinterest - I love the recipes and home ideas! I find and cook with new recipes a few times a month. I’ve had awesome meals and some that, well, I won’t be using anymore! As for the DIY ideas...I just wish I was craftier!

6. List three current obsessions.

Body Back! I can't wait until the next workout. Sweating, having fun and taking a little break for ME. Running! I ran the San Diego Rock n Roll Half Marathon earlier this year, and just signed up for the Long Beach Half Marathon in October. It's addictive! My House! We just moved to our new home in Placentia about 2 weeks ago. I'm excited about all of the fun projects we have to work on. Decorating the kid’s rooms, landscaping the front yard and eventually a new kitchen!

7. What is your children's favorite thing about you or favorite thing that you do?

Dana and James love hearing about my horse show days. That sport was such a huge part of my life for over 20 years (again, I sound old!), and they think it's really cool that "mommy was a cowgirl". I secretly hope that one or more of my kids gets involved in riding so I can live vicariously through them! It's such a positive environment for kids, teaching them responsibility and how to deal with the ups/downs of competition.

8. Any tips for other moms out there?

Every day I pray that God will give me the strength and skills to be the best mom I can be. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail, but my kids think I'm awesome no matter what. And that is what motivates me to work hard, with my husband, to raise loving children with good moral character. Get involved in something - Stroller Strides, MOPS, mommy/church groups... something that connects you with other moms and families, because we are all in this together!
