October Mom of the Month - CECILIA LOZA
Instructor, Krystal Ramirez: "Cecilia is a dedicated mother and a wonderful addition to our Stroller Strides family. She pushes herself to be the best she can be, even while battling an injury. I am impressed every time I see her at the park. She is striving to be a better person and show her kiddos how to live a healthier lifestyle. "
This month we recognize CECILIA for her accomplishment and dedication to fitness, motherhood and life! Our Brea, Fullerton, Placentia and Yorba Linda Fit4Mom Team would like to say, "THANK YOU, CECILIA," for being part of our Stroller Strides family!
1. Who are the members of your family?
The members of my family are my husband, Lucio, who is a wonderful husband and father, and my two beautiful sons, Lucio Andres (4 yrs. old), and my little angel, Christian, who is 8 months.
2. What is or was your career?
I taught first and second grade students for nearly 15 years at La Colima elementary in the East Whittier City School District. I was a dedicated and passionate teacher and love teaching! My students brought so much joy into my life! The joy of becoming a first-time mother was even greater! Therefore, I made the decision to go on sabbatical and be a stay-at-home mom. The transition from working my whole life, to being home with my boys, was a huge adjustment. Leaving my teaching career was very difficult. I miss seeing former students, staff, colleagues, and families on a daily basis. In spite of my great sadness, I am very blessed that I was a teacher for so many years and able to play an important role in my students' lives. My role as a mother is even more important. Just as I dedicated my time and energy to my students I wanted the same and more for my family.
3. How long have you been a member of Stroller Strides of North Orange County and what has it done for you?
I have been part of the Stroller Strides family for approximately 5 months after joining in May of 2014. Joining Stroller Strides has been one of the best things I have done for myself and my family. This program has enabled me to regain my confidence and strength in health and fitness. Additionally, I have been able to connect with amazing mothers that motivate me to be a better person. Stroller Strides has become my second family! I look forward to going everyday! I can always count on the support from instructors and and mamas alike. The energy from the group is always positive, motivating and refreshing! It has reinvigorated in me the joy of exercising and healthy eating. Not only has this helped me, it has also helped my husband and son establish a new healthy lifestyle.
The instructors and co-founders of this organization are the best! I am so glad that I am part of this amazing program and group of wonderful moms.
4. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
The biggest surprise about motherhood is how flexible you need to be with managing your time. There is not always enough time to finish everything on your to-do list. I am goal-oriented and it's in my nature to be organized which is why I would get everything done. Now that I have my two boys, I've learned to not sweat the small stuff. If the dishes in the sink are not washed by the time I leave the house in the morning, it's okay. The dishes aren't going anywhere. Eventually the dishes and the chores around the house will get done one way or another. What matters most is the quality time I spend with my boys and family.
5. Favorite websites?
My favorite websites are Etsy, Pinterest and Amazon!
6. List three current obsessions.
My three current obsessions are doing home projects in my home, decorating my boys' rooms, and doing Stroller Strides!!!
7. What is your child's/children's favorite thing about you or favorite thing that you do?
My son, Lucio, loves it when I sing, play instruments and dance with him. He has a heart for music. My son, Christian, on the other hand, loves it when I play peek-a-boo, sing the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Star." His ultimate joy is playing "super baby" with his big brother.
8. Any tips for other moms out there?
Whether you are a working mom or a stay-at-home mommy like myself, join Stroller Strides or any other mom's club. Being part of a club or program helps you mentally, physically and emotionally. It allows you to socialize with other moms and create new friendships while having fun working out. It's also important to live in the moment and cherish the time with your little ones because they grow up so fast. The ride of motherhood is so worthwhile and a true blessing!
