Instructor, Angela Bridgford: "I had the pleasure of getting to know Lis during our summer L.E.A.N. session this year. The one thing that stands out about her is the support she gives her mommy friends. She is the first to encourage and offer a kind word. On any given day, you can find her working hard at a morning Stroller Strides class and sippin' on a coffee with her mommy friends after class. She's a friend to all, and we love her for that! Thanks for your warm smile and kind heart, Lis! Mommies like you make Our Village the lovely, inviting group that it is!"
This month we recognize LIS for her accomplishment and dedication to fitness, motherhood and life! Our Brea, Fullerton, Placentia and Yorba Linda Fit4Mom Team would like to say, "THANK YOU, LIS," for being part of our Stroller Strides family!
1. Who are the members of your family?
My family includes my amazing husband Mike, the love of our life - Emma, and our 2 fur babies, Zoe and Sophie.
2. What is or was your career?
Before having Emma I worked for Bank of America as an Operations Manager. I was in charge of ensuring my branch was audit compliant. Now I sell Jamberry nails part time for a little extra cash :)
3. How long have you been a member of Stroller Strides of North Orange County and what has it done for you?
I joined SS in October 2013, so it's been a year. I seriously can't even put into words what this organization has done for me. When I joined Mike had just gone back to work from his paternity leave and I was experiencing postpartum depression and crazy anxiety. I was unsure of myself as a new mother. I had gained so much weight from fertility treatments that my weight was at an all time high. And none of my friends had kids so I felt very isolated with low self esteem. SS was initially something for me to just get out of the house and not think. But as time went on I met the most amazing women who showed me that we all feel lost at times and that's ok. We're all struggling to get through this crazy parenting journey together. I also began to realize that my health and fitness is important and I want to show Emma that being healthy can be a normal way of life! I now feel strong and more confident in myself then I've ever been. To say that SS has changed my life is an understatement.
4. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
How much you can love someone. You hear people talk about the love you have for your child but until you actually have a kid you just can't comprehend that kind of love. After giving birth my mom said to me "now you get to see what it's like to live with your heart outside of your body" and she was right!
5. Favorite websites?
Facebook, of course! Pinterest, and People.com (I love looking at the celebrity babies section).
6. List three current obsessions.
Scandal (I just started watching it on Netflix and I'm hooked!!), iced coffee (I'm addicted), and shopping for Emma - haha!
7. What is your child's/children's favorite thing about you or favorite thing that you do?
Emma loves playing hide and seek but she likes being the seeker. And she cracks up if you jump out and startle her as she finds you. She has fallen over from being so startled but she just laughs even harder - what a weirdo!
8. Any tips for other moms out there?
Try not to sweat the little things and instead enjoy all the little happy moments. :)
