APRIL MOM OF THE MONTH - Marisa Sonny
This month we recognize MARISA SONNY for her accomplishment and dedication to fitness, motherhood and life! Our Brea, Fullerton, Placentia and Yorba Linda FIT4MOM Team would like to say, "THANK YOU, MARISA," for being part of our Stroller Strides family!"
Instructor, Michelle Kadera: "I’m thrilled to share that I chose the fabulous Marisa Sonny as our March mama of the month! Marisa is part of our Body Back village and we couldn’t be more thrilled to get the chance to hang out with her! If you haven’t met Marisa, you’ve got to know about this mama! She’s one of the sweetest, enthusiastic and positive mamas out there. She’s one of a kind! I appreciate her positive energy and 100% commitment to her health, her family and our village of mamas. Thank you, Marisa, for being YOU! Beautiful on the inside and out! Congratulations!“
1. Who are the members of your family?
My husband, Mark, my step-son Evan (22), my step-daughter Emily (20), my daughter Marlow (6)
2. What is or was your career?
I teach Social Science to 7th & 8th graders at Beechwood School in Fullerton. Lucky for me, my daughter is in first grade at Beechwood. She will be stuck with me until 8th grade...hallelujah!
3. How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM of North Orange County and what has it done for you?
I started my first Body Back session in September (or did it start in October?) of 2018. I have done every session since then, including a mini session and I don't plan on stopping!
4. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
Well, I never thought I would be a "step-mom", but it is pretty cool. I get to have fun with them and I don't have to do the disciplining. I also get a heads up of what I could possibly expect when my daughter gets older. Of course, no kids are the same or predictable. I am always surprised by the extreme difficulties of motherhood. Just when I think I have it all figured out, some new challenge is thrown at me..... weird questions from my kids that I don't know how to answer, or behaviors in certain situations that I don't expect and cannot control. It is extremely humbling. Someone needs to give us moms some sort of rule or guide book!!
5. Favorite app(s) or website(s)?
Amazon app (it keeps my head above water!), News app, instagram & nordstrom (we have to treat ourselves.)
6. List three current obsessions.
Sparkling water, Tan Towels (Thanks, Julia Barr!) and The Act on Hulu. If you haven't seen The Act, go watch it immediately. It is an absolutely crazy story and it will make feel like the best mom EVER! If it ends up being as fascinating to you as it is to me, there's also documentary about the same topic on HBO called Mommy Dead and Dearest.
7. What is your child's/children's favorite thing about you or favorite thing that you do?
Marlow loves laughing with me and she loves any activity that involves just the two of us, but mostly girly activities like manicures or putting on make up. My step kids are both away at college in San Luis Obispo, so they like being taken out to nice meals. I think they also like me calling out their dad on their behalf. There are certain things a step-mom can say that a mom can't.
8. Any tips for other moms out there?
Enjoy each moment!! When it feels like you might lose it, find something to laugh about, call any mom friend and have a (low calorie) cocktail.
