Instructor, Oria Jacobs: "Laura is a Wonderful Mother, Wife, Friend and Person. I've really enjoyed getting to know her. She definitely tries to find balance in all that she does....being a Wife, a Mommy to 2 little one's, working out...all along with a chaotic and demanding work schedule. I admire her love for all she does and her sense of humor to go with it."
This month we recognize LAURA BRENES for her accomplishment and dedication to fitness, motherhood and life! Our Brea, Fullerton, Placentia and Yorba Linda Stroller Strides Team would like to say, "THANK YOU, LAURA," for being part of our Stroller Strides family!
1. Who are the members of your family?
Me, my husband MaynRad, my son Carlo (3 in June), and my daughter Eva (8 months).
2. What is or was your career?
I am a freelance French Horn player. I play live music in different orchestras around the LA area, and teach at the University of Redlands. I do a lot of recording for movies, tv, and video games. You can hear me on some of the movies out right now.... “Oz, the Great and Powerful,” “Epic,” “Oblivion,” “Ice Age 4.” I have a different schedule every day and love that I don’t know what I’m going to be doing week to week.
3. How long have you been a member of Stroller Strides of North Orange County and what has it done for you?
I joined SS when Carlo was 8 months old back in February of 2011. I litteraly can’t say enough how much this program has done for me. I was really struggling with the trails of motherhood and meeting a wonderful community of strong women who were all going through the same thing helped me so much. I love that there are mothers at all stages of motherhood. I have learned from the mothers with older kids and tried to help the mothers with younger kids ;) Getting exercise in has been a hard thing for me since having my children. Since I work a lot, I had a hard time leaving when I didn’t have to work to go to the gym or something. So being able to include them in my exercise time has been priceless. I can’t sing the praises of SS loud enough!!
4. What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?
EVERYTHING! LOL. I think I was most surprised at how difficult it is. I had tended a lot of children growing up and thought “I have this in the bag!” Little did I know just how humbling it is to have children. I’ve also been surprised at how much I love my kids. I didn’t know that kind of love was possible.
5. Favorite website(s)?
Facebook, Instagram (I have found some amazing clothing makers for little kids.... I’m going to go broke...)
6. List three current obsessions.
Plants Vs. Zombies. Coffee. The shows “Girls” and “Game of Thrones.”
7. What is your child's/children's favorite thing about you or favorite thing that you do?
Not sure.... probably all of the silly songs that I sing..... constantly.
8. Any tips for other moms out there?
Sounds cliché, but enjoy every moment. also, don’t feel bad if you have days that you just don’t feel like your doing the best job. We all feel like that a lot!
